Jo Bailey ( @Jo Bailey
) has his #charityevent
Tonight on the Telly Box it's BBC Children in Need night. I haven't watched it for a lot of years as I didn't have a broadcasting TV for so long, but this evening I've had the fundraising programme on, on and off. This is the Pudsey Bear (mascot of Children in Need, for those not from the UK or familiar with it) from when I was young, and when I was little we watched it every year. Every time I watch bits this evening it makes me cry. Lots of things make me cry at the moment, but that's ok because the emotion is about empathy and compassion and sadness and privilege and many other things all at once. I tried to kinda smile more in the pic above but it didn't quite work so you can imagine it. I wish we didn't have need for most charities - especially those that provide support or rescue for *anyone* in need, but we do. With 4 million children in poverty, and more adults, and a hell of a lot of children in desperate need even if not in poverty, we really need charities who not only work for better lives through direct support, but through pressure groups too.
I'd urge anyone who can spare some pennies (and just pennies if that's what you can afford) to donate to people who are struggling, whether directly, personally or through charities, both national and international, and local. If you can spare any pennies maybe you have something you can take to a charity shop, or do a sponsored something and help raise money if you have a tiny bit of time. Sometimes the biggest charity you can do is to try and be kind and that's ok. Maybe you already do all you can, and maybe you already support local charities or pop pennies in charity pots. Some of the charities that do the most wonderful and necessary work are small and local, and can only dream of receiving money such as earned by bigger charities (I should note that things like Children in Need, and Comic Relief and so on do actually help fund smaller organisations and charities).
