My Hawaii Life ( @My Hawaii Life

@Regrann from @tommyboyyyy - #wahoowednesday For any guys new to spearfishing, or any of you younger guys out there that are trying to shoot your first wahoo...keep reading.
NEVER try stopping a wahoo on a reel gun. Let it run and follow the fish. They are built for speed, (that's why they having racing stripes :) Not for endurance. Wahoo are a soft fish and will tear off really easy if you try to muscle them. They will almost always run parallel to the surface rather than sounding.
You can't tell from this vid due to my #gopro angle, but two wahoos were on direct approach towards me. My partner off to my left. Rather than take the lead fish... eventhough the gill plate shot was there, I kept waiting to see which way the wahoos would turn in hopes of sending the other fish to my partner.
If they turned right, ok well my partner's screwed. If they turn left as they did, I let the lead fish go towards my partner and took an aft section shot on the second fish as gill plate shot was a bit out of range. While I personally prefer shooting any fish in the head, the aft section of a wahoo is more rigid than the body, due to the bones and connective tissue being much closer together. Almost every wahoo I've shot has been on a reel gun with a single flopper. I have luckily never lost one. Moral of the story here is #teamwork If you guys work together out there instead of being out for yourself, you'll put more fish on the deck. Unfortunately, this time the lead fish was just out of range for @808suviah @hecsaquatic @aussiereelsusa #spearfishing #spearo #spearoindustries #saltlife #boatlife #hawaii #waikiki #diving #scuba #boating #riffe #fishing #underwaterphotography #hunting #outdoors #outdoorlife #ocean #nature #instafish #offshore #fishinglife #picoftheday #underwater #pescasub #underwaterphotography #team #goproofoftheday @spearchannel @spearfishing_reviews @spearing_oz @spearfishing_international @sp.f2 @spearfishingeurope @spearingmagazine @spearfishingsuperstore @flfreedivers
